Martha Shadle is a Fellow-in-Training certified by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. She works with students who have learning differences as well as other students needing improvement in reading, writing composition, spelling and reading comprehension. She holds a graduate degree from Georgia State University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame. She has more than 15 years of private practice tutoring experience and has participated in over 300 hours of classroom training including Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood Bell, Psychological Testing, Word Parts and Handwriting Without Tears. She has also conducted teacher training at preschools and private and public school on the Orton-Gillingham Method, dyslexia and pre-reading skills. She is a Mom of three boys, who have experienced public, private and parochial schools in the Atlanta area, boarding school in Chattanooga and colleges in the Southeast.
The Orton-Gillingham Approach to the remediation of reading and writing difficulties is named for Dr. Samuel T. Orton (1879 – 1948) and psychologist and teacher Anna Gillingham (1878 – 1964) who together formulated the approach. Orton-Gillingham is a multi-sensory, language-based, structured, cumulative, cognitive and flexible instructional approach used to teach a student who is struggling with letter/sound relationships, reading, spelling and/or handwriting. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is focused on the learning needs of a student, and each session is designed specifically to meet his or her needs.
Led by Martha Akers Shadle, who is a Fellow-in-Training certified by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and a I.D.A.-certified Dyslexia Therapist, Learning Linkz offers private tutoring in reading, spelling and composition using the Orton-Gillingham approach.
Private Orton-Gillingham tutoring for students who are struggling in reading, spelling, writing and/or handwriting (pre-K – high school)
Private comprehension and fluency tutoring using the Orton-Gillingham Approach. (elementary – high school)
Assessments – Private session to assist parents to determine if their child has any learning differences. An informal assessment is completed and consultation takes place after the session to discuss next steps.
